Geoff has developed a wide range of skills in civil engineering including traffic & transportation (road, rail, air & marine), environmental geotechnical and materials engineering for the transportation, municipal land development, construction project management & code compliance, and industrial (mining, forestry & marine) sectors in British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, Canada. He has successfully operated engineering consulting/contracting businesses in both water supply and environmental remediation (hydC/chem). Special expertise includes all aspects of transportation engineering such as: forensic engineering & accident analysis including pedestrian, car, commercial truck, motorcycle, bicycle, marine, aviation and general accident/slip-and-falls; traffic engineering sign analysis; transportation planning; specialty industrial heavy pavement design; geo-enviromental engineering; construction management& contracting. He has worked with all levels of Municipal, Provincial, Federal & International Governments including
Geoff arrived in Canada's Yukon Territory in 1966, after graduating
from London University, England, with an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering.
Employed by Federal Department of Public Works, Geoff spent the next seven
(7) years working on the re-design and re-construction of sections
of the Alaska Highway and mining roads to resources. Included in this
early experience was construction management of composite steel and concrete
bridges; large multiplate culverts in permafrost areas; sections of
the Alaska Highway including the first asphalt paving for heavy axle loads
(White Pass & Yukon trucks from the Anvil Mine). In 1968, Geoff re-designed
the intersection at the top of Two Mile Hill in Whitehorse, which
involved removing the highly revered roundabout.
Moving to Alberta in 1973 Geoff joined the consulting engineering fraternity
in the areas of highway, traffic & transit, Forensic, municipal land development engineering
and hazardous waste transportation. During the
period between 1977-80 he opened the first Evans Professional Engineering Services Ltd and worked on projects throughout Canada including the northern
territories.
From 1982-1984 Geoff was employed by CIDA as Chief Engineer of Rural Water Supply Board in Swaziland, Southern Africa; and from 1984-86 opened
his own water supply contracting business called Water Science Industries
Ltd in Swaziland using Oxfam, Save-the-Children, Council of Churches;
Lions Club and Rotary funds from overseas.
After returning from Africa, and working in the transportation & environmental
fields, in 1992, Geoff began EPES in Nanaimo, a small firm specializing
in environmental engineering & remediation contracting; forensic
engineering & accident analysis; traffic & transportation engineering
& planning.
